Marshlink Line
The Marshlink Line
The Marshlink Line is a section of railway between Hastings and Ashford, extending to Eastbourne. It passes the famous landing place of William the Conqueror at Pevensey, follows the dramatic coastline between Bexhill and Hastings, crosses the stunning Romney Marsh, and continues through the ‘ancient’ towns of Winchelsea and Rye before arriving at Ashford with its high speed connections to London and Europe. There are a huge variety of walks and cycle routes throughout this area to explore, some covering local nature reserves. The major paths to enjoy are:
- The Royal Military Canal Path
- The Saxon Shore Way
- The 1066 Century Walk
- The South Downs Way
Sussex Community Rail Partnership (Sussex CRP) by working in partnership has achieved a number of station improvements and community events along the line over the past 6 years. These include improved cycle facilities at Ham Street, the National Community Rail Festival and work with local schools to develop children’s understanding and appreciation of the railway. The Marshlink is a popular tourist link for the area and the Marshlink line guide, produced by the Sussex CRP with the support of its partners, especially Hastings Borough Council, help to encourage more people to use the line.
There is always more that needs to be achieved and the action plan for 2012 is currently being developed with the help of the Steering Group and Stakeholders.
For move information about what we do or to get move involved with the partnerships, to join in with an event, be part of a Station Partnership or discuss an issue with the Sussex CRP please contact the lines development officer via the contact page. Or see our links page to plan a journey along the line.
