- The Ore Tunnel and Ore Station
The Ore Tunnel on the Marshlink line is 1402 yards long and leads into Ore Station.
Ore, a former village, is a suburb of the urban area of the town and borough of Hastings in East Sussex. It is located to the north-east of the town on the main road to Rye (the coastal A259 road). Its name may have originated from the Old English word for "stream-bank". It is the largest suburb of Hastings.
In Ore and the Ore Valley there are plenty of community shops and shopping centres, the main shopping centre being Ore Village on Old London Road/Priory Road which includes: Pharmacies, newsagents, off licence, a Post Office, KFC, Co-Op supermarket, greengrocer, Chinese takeaway and restaurant, kebab takeaway, hairdressers, electrical shop, entertainment shop, bank, car lot, motor bike retailers and a clinic.
There are also shops in community spaces such as Hughenden Road, Pilot Road, Malvern Way, Mount Road, Priory Road and The Ridge.
Ore station is the terminus for electric East Coastway services. Trains run regularly to Hastings and beyond (the usual termini for trains from Ore are either Brighton or London Victoria). Direct trains to Ashford International, originating in Brighton, only call here occasionally, requiring doubling back via Hastings at other times. There is an hourly service to London Victoria via Lewes and Haywards Heath. There is also an hourly stopping service to Brighton via Eastbourne and peak Southeastern trains to/from London via Battle.
Trains terminating and re-starting at this station run forward into a turnaround siding which runs adjacent to the Marshlink line as far as Ore Tunnel. Ore is also the start of the single track section on the Marshlink line, which runs through to Appledore.
