Uckfield and East Grinstead Lines

The Uckfield and East Grinstead lines provide an excellent rail connection for the area, and a wonderful way to travel though beautiful Sussex, on through glorious parts of Kent and Surrey and to all the adventure of London. Full maps of the lines can be found in the line guide on the publications page and available free on request.

Since its inception in 2004 the Sussex Community Rail Partnership (Sussex CRP) has been working with partners along the Uckfield Line and since January 2006 has included the East Grinstead Line in the partnership. We are very proud of the work that has been carried out in conjunction with parish councils, district and county councils, local business including tourism and leisure and the train operating company Southern Railways. Initiatives have included improvements in the service, the provision of cycle racks, community rail days at Edenbridge, Crowborough and East Grinstead, provision of local information at stations, station improvements and promotion of the lines through the award winning line guide.

The Sussex CRP believes that the air-conditioned turbo trains and regular timetable, which now includes a Sunday service to London via Oxted are all excellent improvements already made by Southern. However we are still striving to meet passenger needs by campaigning for later services and an earlier service on Sunday, improving facilities at stations, getting disused buildings back into use for community activities, and promoting station partnerships.

For move information about what we do or to get move involved with the partnerships, to join in with an event, be part of a station partnership or discuss an issue with the Sussex CRP please contact the lines development officer via the details on the contact page. Or see our links page to plan a journey along the line.
